Bullock-Mills, Higley denied state titles

AUBURN HILLS — Darek Bullock-Mills of Niles and Michael Higley of Edwardsburg both reached the Division 2 state wrestling semifinals, but were denied a shot at a championship Friday night.

Bullock-Mills was defeated by Eaton Rapids’ Jaedin Sklapsky 9-2 in the 130-pound semifinals, while Higley dropped a 4-2 decision at 103 pounds to Fowlerville’s Dalton Roberts.

Despite the losses, Niles, Edwardsburg, Dowagiac and Brandywine will have a bevy of state placers this weekend led by the Vikings with five.

Joining Bullock-Mills on the podium later today will be Andrew Flick (1-3), Brendon Meek (112), Josh Dayhuff (119) and Warren Smith (140).

Dowagiac’s Tristan Howard will also place at 285-pounds in Division 3, as will Brandywine’s Cory Katterheinrich at 285 in Division 4.
