CASSOPOLIS — A Cass County resident celebrated a birthday milestone this week.

Barbara Monroe, a familiar face at the Cass County Council On Aging, celebrated her 100th birthday Wednesday at the COA among friends and family.

With a routine that includes daily visits to the COA, participation in fitness activities, social gatherings, and an enthusiasm for exploring new horizons on bus trips, COA Director of Community Development Kelli Casey believes Monroe embodies the spirit of active living.

“Barbara exemplifies the vitality and zest for life that defines the COA community,” she said. “Monroe’s commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is evident in her regular visits to the COA’s fitness center. Whether cardio exercises or strength training, Barbara embraces physical activity as a cornerstone of her routine. Her dedication not only inspires others but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among fellow members.”

Beyond her dedication to fitness, Monroe is described as a social butterfly at the COA. “Lunchtime allows her to connect with friends, share stories, and forge new friendships. Her presence brightens the atmosphere, creating a welcoming environment for all who visit the COA,” Casey said.

Monroe also attends many of the COA’s events. From educational seminars to recreational activities, she participates in various programs. However, Barb’s love for adventure extends beyond the walls of the COA.

“She eagerly joins other COA participants on bus trips, ready to explore new destinations and create lasting memories,” Casey said.

For Casey, Monroe’s dedication to fitness, active participation in events, and love for travel encapsulates the COA’s mission by promoting healthy aging, fostering social connections, and embracing life’s adventures.

“As Barbara continues to inspire those around her, she embodies the vitality and engagement that defines the COA community.”
