Fourth Annual Cat Tracks 5K Aug. 21

The Fourth Annual Cat Tracks 5K Trail Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21.

The event, which will be held at Brandywine High School, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

This is a challenging course with hills, sandy stretches and parts of the high school cross-country course which features “the swamp.”

Brandywine’s new football-track and field athletic facilities now are in need of a new press box. Money raised will help to reach that goal.

Unique acrylic trophies are presented to the overall male and female winner. Medals are awarded three deep in each age group for the run and the walk.

Back this year, is timing and scoring by Niles Optimist race timing. It will be held rain or shine. Because it finishes on the new track organizers are asking, if you wear spikes, they be no longer than 1/8-inch pyramids please.

Please keep in mind that course conditions are very weather dependent, heavy rain could mean running through mud and puddles in the swamp, with sporadic washouts possible.

This race is endorsed by the Governor’s Council; all participants are eligible for the lottery to run the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day. See the race director if you need additional info.

Course records were set in 2009 by Ryan Greutman of South Bend, Ind. with a time of 16:30 and Katherine Manion, also of South Bend, with a time of 20:00

Entry fees are once again: $15 pre-registered until Aug. 1, $18 after that and $20 on race day.

Early packet pickup and late registration will be at the high school cafeteria on Friday Aug. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. Race day registration will be from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m.

Entry fee includes a t-shirt (guaranteed for pre-registered only), post race refreshments and door prizes to be drawn during the awards ceremony.  Visit us on facebook.

Entry forms are available at the Bell Education Center, Niles-Buchanan YMCA, Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA, Lakeland Athletic Club, and Metro Run&Walk in Mishawaka.   Forms can also be downloaded from     www.brandywinebobcats.org.
