PARCHMENT — The Bucks picked up their first win of the season as Johnny Rager scored three touchdowns in a 34-15 win over host Parchment Saturday afternoon.

“We are extremely proud of the way our young men fought,” said Buchanan coach Mark Frey. “We played a complete game, and we look forward to the final four games as opportunities to grow and get better each week.”

The Bucks and Panthers were forced to postpone their game on Friday night due to weather.

Rager scored on runs of one and 13 yards, while he also caught a 41-yard pass from Levi Zelmer.

Sam Riley threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Jack Branch. Riley also scored on a one-yard run as the Bucks improved to 1-4.

Rager finished with 59 yards rushing and caught four passes for 118 yards. Riley was 11-of-23 for 200 yards. Zelmer was 1-for-1 for 41 yards.

The Bucks finished with 381 yards of total offense, including 241 passing.

The Buchanan defense allowed 251 yards in total offense to the Panthers.

Gavin Fazi led the Bucks with eight tackls, including a sack. Aidan Kile had six and a half tackles and an interception.

Dowagiac football

PLAINWELL — A delay of nearly 24 hours was not enough to keep visiting Dowagiac from improving its Wolverine Conference football record to 3-2 on Saturday.

The Chieftains led 6-0 Friday night when the game with host Plainwell was postponed until Saturday afternoon due to thunderstorms.

Dowagiac picked up where it left off Saturday afternoon and defeated the Trojans 25-14.

De’Ondray Henry, and the Chieftain special teams, picked up yet another touchdown as he returned a first-quarter punt 86 yards for a touchdown.

Dowagiac also scored on an 11-yard run by D.J. Lanier. The Chieftains failed on both extra-point attempts, but still led 12-8 heading into the second quarter.

DaShawn Brooks hauled in one of two Cailyn Murphy passes for a touchdown. This one covered five yards, while Murphy also connected with Alex McIntosh in the fourth quarter for a 25-yard touchdown to cap the scoring.
