Edwardsburg rolls to Gull Lake tournament victory

RICHLAND — The Edwardsburg softball team had no trouble sweeping Decatur, Mattawan and Gull Lake to capture the Gold Bracket of the Gull Lake Invitational Saturday.

The Eddies (6-2) blew out the Raiders 11-1, the Wildcats 9-2 and the host Blue Devils 10-2 to claim the title.

In its opening game against the Raiders, Edwardsburg banged out 15 hits, including two doubles and two home runs.

Sydney Klaer was 3-for-4 with a home run, while Ella Zache was 3-for-3 with a double and a home run. Kendal Hulett and Kourtney Zarycki both finished with a pair of hits. Zarycki also had a double.

Makhaya Heflin started and pitched the first three-plus innings, allowing one run on three hits. Julia Seifer came on in the fourth and finished the game.

 

Edwardsburg vs. Mattawan

The Eddies had 13 more hits in its second-round match-up with the Wildcats.

Klaer, Zache and Lexi Schimpa all had two hits. Klaer and Lani Hardin both doubled, while Schimpa added a triple.

Kennidie Flanery worked the first innings in the circle before giving way to Heflin, who earned the victory. The pair combined on a four-hitter and did not give up a earned run.

 

Edwardsburg vs. Gull Lake

The Eddies wrapped up the day with 12 hits against the Blue Devils.

Hulett and Zarycki both finished the game 3-for-4. Zache added a pair of hits.

Victoria Pulling started for Edwardsburg and allowed two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts.

Seifer recorded the final two outs for the Eddies.

Edwardsburg returns to Wolverine Conference play Tuesday when it travels to Three Rivers.
