DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac boys track team swept visiting Buchanan and Benton Harbor in a Lakeland Conference meet Wednesday.
The meet was the first at home for the Chieftains in more than five years.
Dowagiac defeated the Bucks 78-54 and the Tigers 107-16.
The Chieftains split with Buchanan and Benton Harbor in girls track, defeating the Tigers 96-10, but falling to the Bucks 65-60.
Arturo Benitez swept the 100- and 200-meters with time of 11.88 and 24.45 respectively. He was also part of the winning 400- and 800-meter relay teams. The 400-relay team, which also consisted of Avery Amundsen, Zimerian Jones and Jaylin Modrano, posted a time of 50.64. The 800-meter relay team, which also consisted of Joshua Winchester-Jones, Amundsen and Cameron White, ran a time of 1:38.41.
Winchester-Jones added a win in the 400-meters with a time of 54.44, while Owen Saylor was a three-winner as he won the 800- (2:07.42), 1,600-meters (4:29.73) and 3,200-meters (11:00.40).
The Chieftains also got a win out of Deven Rock in the 110-meter high hurdles (19.75), Max Stelmasiak in the shot put (37-8) and Isaiah Fitchett in the high jump (5-9).
Buchanan’s Britain Philip was a multiple winner as he took first place in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (42.72) and was a member of the Bucks’ winning 1,600 and 3,200-meter relay team. The 1,600-meter team, which also consisted of Jack Sherwood, Coy Weinberg and Carson Deming, ran a time of 3:43.90. The 3,200-meter squad, which was also made up of Jacob Kuntz, Sherwood and Liam McBeth, ran a time of 9:11.77.
Buchanan’s other first place effort came from Weinbert, who won the pole vault with a height of 9-6.
Dowagiac’s Audrey Johnson and Shamyra Clark were both three-time winners Wednesday.
Johnson won the 200-meters with a time of 28.50, the 400-meters with a time of 1:01,83 and was a member of the winning 800-meter relay team. Her and Clark, along with Tessa Deering and Khamari Mack ran a time of 1:53.44.
Deering was a double winner as she took first in the high jump with a height of 4-6.
Buchanan dominated the distance events as Brooke Schlutt on the 800-meters (2:55.11), Madeline Young won the 1,600 (6:15.29) and Emma Miller won the 3,200-meters (13:03.42).
The Bucks also won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays.
Audrey Lietz, Young, Alaina Nagel and Ava Graham) won the 1,600-meters with a time of 4:39.51, while Adyson Baker, Schlutt, Miller and Sydney Greaves won the 3,200-meters with a time of 11:59.13.
Graham also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.37. Akirrah Robinson took first in the discus (81-3.5) and Zoe Griggs won the shot put (29-7.5). Baker won the pole vault with a height of 7-0.
