BRASELTON, Ga. – The American Junior Golf Association has finalized the field for the AJGA Notre Dame Junior Open, which will be held at Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame, July 27-30.

The 99-player field represents 15 states, Canada and Mexico. The home state will be represented by 12 Indiana natives in the tournament.

Southwest lower Michigan will be represented by Niles’ Chris Noble, who already has a top finish in an AJGA event and recently won the Michigan Junior Open in South Haven.

Also from Michigan will be Sam Stark of Hartland, Sean Van Aken of Monroe, Steve Schumacker from Farmington Hills and Christine Meier of Rochester Hills.

The tournament field also boasts several other players who have signed National Letters of Intent to continue playing competitive golf at colleges around the country. In total, six have signed National Letters of Intent, including Corey Ziedonis of Indianapolis, who will compete for Indiana starting in the fall.

A portion of the 99-player field will be reserved for players earning entry via the 18-hole K12 Qualifier, which will be an 1:30 p.m. shotgun at Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame on Sunday. K12 Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to “play their way in” to coinciding AJGA Open tournaments or earn a Tournament Exemption or Performance Star for a future event. The K12 Qualifier Series offers opportunities for AJGA juniors at approximately 50 AJGA Open events.

A tournament practice round will take place Monday as a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Tournament play will run from Tuesday, July 28, to Thursday, July 30, with tee times from 7 a.m.-12:20 p.m. off the No. 1 tee of Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame.
An awards ceremony will be held immediately following final-round play Thursday.
Admission is free of charge and guests are welcome to attend.

During the tournament week, some of the top juniors who will be participating in the AJGA Notre Dame Junior Open will also take part in the Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament on Monday. The Junior-Am will be an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame.

An excellent opportunity to entertain clients, reward employees or enjoy a tournament round with some friends, the Junior-Am allows amateurs to play a competitive round of golf with future stars of the game.

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Davis Love III, Justin Leonard, Charles Howell III, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel and Grace Park are just a few of the thousands of talented players who participated in AJGA Junior-Ams when they were teenagers.

Supporting golf at the grassroots level, Junior-Ams allow the AJGA to make contributions to local junior golf charities and programs in hosting communities.

In 2009, the proceeds of the AJGA Notre Dame Junior Open Junior-Am will benefit the South Bend District Golf Association Junior Golf and the AJGA Foundation. To participate, contact John Foster at (574) 631-4653.
