Decatur library hires director

DECATUR — Ryan Wieber, of Otsego, has been hired by the Van Buren District Library Board of Trustees as the system’s new director.

Wieber, director at Otsego District Library, succeeds David Tate, who is retiring after 34 years. According to board Chairman Phillip Marshall, Wieber’s experience, knowledge and enthusiasm were key factors in the board’s selection.

“Ryan has the qualities we need for the continued growth and success of the district,” he said. “His excellent management skills in finances and personnel, plus his commitment to community are indispensable traits for overseeing the present and future development of library services.”

Wieber says he is honored to be named director of the seven-facility district and excited about the opportunities he’ll find in a larger system.

“I’ve had great experiences while at the Otsego District Library the past 13 years and am ready for new challenges,” Wieber said. “Van Buren District Library is known for being soundly run and for providing its patrons with excellent services. I’m looking forward to getting to know each of the communities it serves.”

The board is planning an open house for Wieber and will announce a date after the first of the year.

Van Buren District Library is headquartered in Decatur with branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.
