The 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge will take place at Pleasant Lake Saturday. Pre-register or register the day of the event for the Special Olympics fundraiser.

All you need is a minimum of $75, a crazy costume and courage to take part in the Polar Plunge at Pleasant Lake Saturday to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) athletes at the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Polar Plunge.
Plunge registration is scheduled to start at 9 a.m., followed by the parade of costumes and Polar Plunge at 11 a.m. The post-plunge party and awards ceremony is scheduled to begin immediately following the plunge.
This Polar Plunge is one of 27 Polar Plunges planned throughout Michigan from January through March in Alpena, Battle Creek, Belleville, Brighton, Caro, Cheboygan, Chippewa Lake, Clark Lake, Detroit, Edwardsburg, Fenton, Gaylord, Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Lansing Capitol, Lake City, Marquette, Monroe, Mount Pleasant, Muskegon, Saginaw, Sault Ste. Marie, Stanton, Traverse City and Ypsilanti.
Big hearts can take the plunge for a minimum donation of $75.
Brave individuals that are interested in taking the plunge can pre-register online at www.firstgiving.com/polarplunge/petoskey2012 or on site the day of the event.
The annual Polar Plunge is known for its wacky costume contest where plungers compete for the Golden Plunger Award for best costume.
All plungers will receive an official 2012 Polar Plunge T-shirt. Plungers will also receive incentive gifts for higher levels of fundraising and entry into the post polar plunge party.
Those who don’t want to plunge into the chilly waters can also collect donations to receive a T-shirt that bears the “Too Chicken to Plunge” logo and are invited to attend the post-plunge party.
The Polar Plunge is made possible by the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a group of police officers and corrections personnel committed to raising funds and awareness for SOMI.
Proceeds from the Polar Plunge support the year-round sports training and athletic competition for 20,679 children and adults with intellectual disabilities who live in Michigan.
