Ontwa Township officials told residents that if they are concerned about it, they should contact their state representatives about a bill that would eliminate landline telephones.

It was announced at the township board meeting Tuesday night by Larry Banghart that Senate Bill 636 passed and is on its way to the House of Representatives. Supervisor John Brielmaier urged people to contact state officials as it is slated to reach the house by Dec. 16.

Board members chuckled that they wouldn’t have a telephone at the township hall anymore. Everything would have to be done by cell phones.

The board heard from County Commissioner Roseann Marchetti that the Cass County Road Commission received a bid and is expected to approve it for the resurfacing of Elkhart Road in the spring. She said it is planned to be completely remilled and resurfaced with the bid being 1.5 percent more than anticipated.

The resurfacing is planned from May Street south to Redfield Street.

Brielmaier announced there were 261 complaints received by the Edwardsburg Police Department, 215 calls for service and 10 accidents.

The Edwardsburg Fire Department made four runs in October and 24 runs in November.

The Edwardsburg Ambulance Service made 55 runs in October and 59 runs in November.

There were five building permits issued at $210,800.

The fire department collected $600 for the food pantry, and the board said “hats off” to the police, fire and ambulance personnel for being productive and lighting the Christmas tree on Main Street.
