Samboree at fairgrounds in May

While Dowagiac does the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival, Cassopolis will host a Good Sam Club Samboree at the Cass County Fairgrounds.
About 250 to 300 recreational vehicle rigs converge on the fairgrounds May 17-20.
Good Sam is a worldwide RV organization which provides insurance policies, road service and camping discounts.
Michigan’s division conducts two samborees each year, with another in Otisville Sept. 20-23.
Samborees are booked two years at a time, so RVs return in 2013.
“For the first time since I’ve been in, since 1987, our rally will be in Cassopolis,” said Sharon Harnden of Dowagiac.
“I’m trying to push Dowagiac, my home, seven miles away. We’re going to have vendors and entertainment,” including Lighthouse Chorus and Al Mott.
Harnden last year tabulated receipts, including $12,184 for West Branch and $8,800 for Vandalia-sized Otisville — “a pretty good shot in the arm for an area” in a 15-mile radius.
Any business or organization wishing to donate a door prize or something for goody bags can contact Harnden at (269) 782-7460 or (269) 462-1816.
