Chemical Bank collecting mittens, gloves, scarves for needy families

Chemical Bank is encouraging others to lend a hand and help provide warmth for those who are experiencing difficult times with its “Mittens for Michigan” campaign.
Individuals, families, businesses and schools can join Chemical Bank in lending a hand this holiday season by donating new, homemade or gently used mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for needy Michigan individuals and families.
Collection boxes are located at 9190 U.S. Highway 31-33, Berrien Springs; 1101 E. Front St. and 128 N. Main St. Buchanan; 6534 Main St., Eau Claire; 68955 M-62, Edwardsburg; 407 E. Main St. and 1835 S. 11th St., Niles; and 11 E. Linden St. in Three Oaks.
Chemical Bank has partnered with The Salvation Army of Niles and the Three Oaks Police Department to distribute the donations to those with the greatest need throughout the winter.
“Throughout the cold weather season we offer warm hats, gloves, scarves and mittens to those in need, not just because it is Christmas, but simply because there exists a need,” said Jan Nowak, director of caring ministries/social services for The Salvation Army, Niles. “It is about more than warming someone’s head and hands; it is about warming their hearts as well.  It is about doing for others and helping those less fortunate because that is the right thing to do. ‘Mittens for Michigan’ is a great way to do just that — help others, feel good about what you are doing, and support an organization known for offering exactly this kind of mission and outreach.
“We truly appreciate and depend upon businesses and individuals stepping up to help us make it happen for others, both through Christmas time and throughout the year.”
Since launching the “Mittens for Michigan” campaign in 2008, Chemical Bank has collected and distributed more than 36,000 items across Michigan.
