Niles’ Findeisen wins district title

EATON RAPIDS — The Niles wrestling team advanced nine wrestlers to Saturday’s Division 2 Individual Regional at Mason.

The Vikings had one individual champion Saturday at Eaton Rapids High School as Fritzel Findeisen scored a major decision over Corey Kerstetter of Jackson Parma Western in the title match, 15-4.

Also advancing for the Vikings were Cole Allison (130), Casey Burandt (135), Donte Stevens, Ryan Casey (189), Brendon Meek (103), Nicholas Zimmerman (112), Darek Mills (119) and Derek Scott (285).

Allison, Burandt, Stevens and Casey were all runners-up. Meek, Zimmerman and Scott each finished second with Mills taking fourth.

Niles, which will compete in the Division 2 Team Regional Wednesday in Three Rivers, will send its nine grapplers on to the individual regional Saturday at Mason High School.

Edwardsburg advanced four wrestlers to the regional round.

Michael Kempton captured the 130-pound championship with a 6-2 decision over Allison.

Also advancing were Michael Borden (12), Blake King (140) and Bradley Brassfield (171).
