Bucks no-hit in quarterfinals

LANSING — Sam Bates tossed a no-hitter with seven strikeouts as Springport blanked Buchanan 5-0 in the Division 3 Softball Quarterfinals at Lansing Catholic High School Tuesday.

Springport (39-2-1) scored all of its runs in the first two innings. Springport scored a pair of runs in the first and three more in the second inning.

Springport finished with eight hits, including two each from Hannah Baum and Bates. Baum drove in a pair of runs.

Kaitlynn went the distance in taking the loss for the Bucks.

Buchanan (23-15) had four baserunners as Brianna Turnock walked twice, while Emily Kuntz and MacKenzie Orphanidis each also drew walks.
