IICD to host clothing drive during downtown festival

Dowagiac’s Institute for International Cooperation and Development, 56968 Dailey Rd., Dowagiac, will host a booth during the Under the Harvest Moon Festival Oct. 13 in downtown Dowagiac.

Part fundraiser and part poverty awareness campaign, IICD Michigan mobilizes their activists to collect gently used clothing and shoes. Festivalgoers and residents are invited to donate any gently used clothing items. The clothing drive helps fund struggling communities in Africa.

“Jessica (Sherman, member of the festival committee) got us involved,” Anthony Nugent, IICD project manager, said Thursday. “This is just one of those things we want to bring to the community.”

Nugent also said the booth will offer information to residents who would like to know more about IICD and what they strive to accomplish.

“We’ll have a lot of information on our programs and what people can do without enrolling with IICD,” Nugent said.

The booth will be located near the downtown branch of Fifth Third Bank.

For more information or to make arrangements for donations at another time, call  (269) 445-7517 or email fightpoverty@iicdmichigan.org.
