BROOKLYN — NASCAR drivers have always found a way to challenge NASCAR’s fastest racetrack. But now, a new kind of athlete will find out just how tough MIS can be.

Michigan International Speedway has been chosen as the state’s only host venue for Tough Mudder, a hardcore, 12-mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces to test strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie.

The Tough Mudder event will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30, at Michigan International Speedway. To register for Tough Mudder Michigan, visit http://bit.ly/Q714MH.

“We’re thrilled Tough Mudder chose Michigan International Speedway,” MIS President Roger Curtis said. “We are always exploring ways to showcase our facility to the next generation of NASCAR fans and this is another example. This event will be a great opportunity to show everyone who comes here how beautiful the area is, and create even more economic and tourism opportunities for local businesses. Also, hosting events such as this brings even more quality-of-life, fun events to this community.”

With innovative and fun obstacle courses, half a million inspiring participants and more than $3 million raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world. In 2012 alone, there were 35 Tough Mudder events with over 460,000 participants across the country.

Tough Mudder is expending in 2013 with over 50 events, including more than 35 in the United States.

Besides its NASCAR races and Tough Mudder, MIS also hosts a number of other events throughout the year. The speedway annually hosts the Michigan Wine and Beer Festival presented by Experience Jackson in May, the Spirit of America in September and Michigan High School Athletic Association High School Cross Country Championships in November.

Officials for the two-mile racetrack are always looking for other events, including concerts, festivals, world-class automotive R&D testing, NASCAR-style driving schools, weddings, proms, reunions and camping jamborees, among others.

Tickets are on sale at www.MISpeedway.com or by phone at (800) 354-1010.
