Dowagiac and Berrien Springs from the Wolverine Conference and Brandywine from the BCS Athletic Conference will face nine other teams at the Division 3 Regional Golf Tournament at Marywood Golf Club in Battle Creek Friday.

The Chieftains, Shamrocks and Bobcats finished in the top six at the Division 3 District Tournament held at Hampshire Country Club last Thursday.

Dowagiac finished a stroke behind district champion Schoolcraft, while Berrien Springs finished fifth and Brandywine sixth.

The Chieftains, led by Jordan Hagemann’s 82, shot 340 as a team. Berrien Springs, which shot 367, was led by Blake Rudlaff’s 84.

The Bobcats, who qualified for the regional for the first time in school history with a 376, were led by medalist Alec DeJonge’s 78.

Also qualifying from the Dowagiac district were Battle Creek Pennfield (359) and Comstock (362).

Individual qualifiers included Buchanan’s Ty Lorance, who shot 98. Lorance had to win a three-person playoff to advance.

Qualifying from the Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian district held at Silver Lake Country Club in Rockford were host NorthPointe, Vermontville Maple Valley, Grand Rapids South Christian, Grand Rapids West Catholic, Portland and Olivet.

NorthPointe won the district championship with a 337. Maple Valley was second with a 342. NorthPointe was led by medalist Collin McGinnis.

“I looked at the other district and the winning scores were 337 followed by 342 and 347,” Dowagiac coach Bob Turner said. “We shot 340 behind Schoolcraft’s 339. Looking at it that way, we have a shot. We need to get the same out of our inexperienced guys and our returning guys need to knock some shots off. I think we can get to 330, but I have not seen the course.”

Dowagiac is planning on playing Marywood today.
