Buchanan captured the first Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph County Consortium Wrestling Tournament.

The tournament replaced league tournaments for the Lakeland, Red Arrow and St. Joseph Valley conferences. The point of the tournament was to provide some quality wrestling in preparation for the start of the state tournament this week.

No actual team championship was awarded, but the Bucks finished with 211.5 points to easily outdistance runner-up Bronson, which had 162 points.

Edwardsburg was third (161), Brandywine fourth (132) and Eau Claire fifth (130.5). Cassopolis finished eighth with 99 points.

The Bucks had a trio of champions.

Jeff Mucha, ranked No. 9 at 135 in Division 3 defeated John Tullos of White Pigeon, ranked No. 6 in Division 4, 7-2. The loss was the first of the season for Tullos.

The Eddies finished with a pair of champions.

Blake King won the 145-pound title with a 7-0 win over Covert’s Kysean Wright. Bradley Brassfield won the 171-pound championship with a 4-2 win over Dennis Medlin of Eau Claire.
