Dowagiac’s Toy wins 5K walk at Steve’s Run

Dowagiac’s Lee Ann Toy captured the women’s 5K walk at Steve’s Run Saturday morning.

Toy, who said she has been training hard for the race, finished in  a time of 32:50.

Nancy Northrop, also of Dowagiac, was second with a clocking of 34:47, while Nancy Nelson of Benton Harbor (35:13), Julie Koch of St. Joseph (35:41) and Shelly Huber of Montrose (35:45) rounded out the top five finishers.

Dowagiac’s Jessica Robison (37:42) and Lisa Neumann (39:23) were also top 10 finishers.

Montrose’s Rick Huber captured the men’s 5K walk after completing the course in 28:43.

Craig Hamilton of Dowagiac was second with a time of 33:06, while Rich Brychta of Tucson, Ariz. was third (35:03), Don Moore of Edwardsburg was fourth (35:48) and David Phillips of Eau Claire was fifth (37:17).

Michael Shields of Dowagiac was sixth (38:22) and Craig Wiker, also of Dowagiac, was ninth (39:46)
