Meeting tonight on proposed Niles sports complex

The Carrier Corporation, the parent corporation of the former Tyler Refrigeration Company, has proposed developing a sports complex for the Niles community on the site of the ex-Tyler property.

A presentation meeting with Niles residents will be held at 5 p.m. today in Niles City Council Chambers, 1345 E. Main Street inside the Niles Fire Station Complex.

The purpose of the presentation meeting is to gather input from residents and to provide some information about the construction and development of the new sports complex facility.

The engineering and architectural firm secured by the City of Niles, Wightman and Associates of Benton Harbor, will be on hand to facilitate discussions and present the community with some information regarding the new sports complex.

Residents are encouraged to attend today’s meeting to learn more about this development project and to share their ideas, views and hopes for the new facility.

A proposed design for the project can be found on the City of Niles website: www.ci.niles.mi.us.

Carrier Corporation announced in 2009 it would discontinue production and sell the Tyler-branded refrigeration product lines catering to food retail customers in North America. Carrier Corp. is a unit of United Technologies Corp.

Check back with leaderpub.com after today’s meeting for more information. More information on the meeting will also be available in Tuesday’s Niles Daily Star.
