Michaela Hartline named top player

FREELAND — Trine’s Michaela Hartline has been named the MIAA Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today.

Hartline (Brandywine) batted .600 and homered twice to lead the Thunder to a 3-1 record last week. In a 2-0 victory over Ohio Northern, Hartline launched a solo home run in the bottom of the third to get Trine on the board.

The freshman had a monster game in a 5-0 victory over Calvin, homering and driving in four of the team’s five runs in a shutout victory over the Knights. Hartline recorded a hit in all four games last week. She is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career.

Hartline has heated up at the plate in the last two weeks, with three home runs in the last six games. She is batting .533 during that time frame. Overall, Hartline is batting .395 with a team-leading .521 on-base percentage. Her .658 slugging percentage ranks third on the team. She has homered three times and picked up 13 RBIs.

Trine is ranked No. 4 in the nation by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and owns an overall record of 21-1.

The Thunder travelled to Olivet for a MIAA doubleheader Tuesday.

Head coach Don Danklefsen was looking to notch his 400th career victory with a Trine sweep.
