Movie review: Resident Evil Retribution

Resident Evil: Retribution
3.5 out of 5 stars
Genre: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi
Rated: R

Milla Jovovich is back as Alice in the fifth installment of the “Resident Evil” series. In 2010, we were introduced to by far the worst of the “Resident Evil” films, “Afterlife.” Sadly, “Retribution” is not much better.

The opening scene starts off with an annoyingly long slow-motion action sequence being played backward. After that, Alice explains the history of the franchise in a five-minute direct address to the audience. Those two opening scenes are just plain irritating and boring.

All there is to really say about this movie is that it is terribly plotted. It has ridiculous action scenes and it is poorly scripted.

From the opening moment, the movie is just lost. Every scene doesn’t seem to fit the previous. Not only that, the scenes are very short. When a major action scene comes, it last about six minutes, but the more serious parts of the movies are about 30 seconds. That is the problem with this “Resident Evil;” it’s literately non-stop action. There was almost no storyline in the movie, which was a major disappointment

The acting was not half-bad by Milla Jovovich. She, of course, is one the only great thing about this whole series.

Despite all the terrible parts, there are some parts that stand out. Even though there were many action scenes, they were decently done. The visuals of the action scenes were stunning. The scenes were very intense.

You can’t help but love this movie, even though it is really not good. I recommend going to see this just because it is a fun movie. Overall it’s bad, just truly bad. Go watch it.
