EDWARDSBURG — At a special meeting June 19, the Ontwa Township Board of Trustees approved its COVID preparedness plan, which will allow it to reopen its offices.

The board failed to approve a plan at its regular monthly meeting June 8, stating it was too long and would be difficult to follow.

The new plan, which was prepared by township’s attorney, Bauckham, Sparks, Thall, Seeber & Kaufman, P.C., had two revisions, which were discussed and approved before the plan was approved on a 6-0 vote. Trustee Jerry Duck was absent from the meeting.

“We had to approve our own plan prior to opening up the township,” said Ontwa Township Supervisor Jerry Marchetti. “It was approved, and we opened up the township offices today [Wednesday]. I do not think we had anyone come in the first three hours.”

By approving the plan, the township reopened its offices on Wednesday with regular hours.

The township hall will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be no chamber of commerce meeting for July, while the departmental meeting status will be posted on the Ontwa Township website, ontwatwp.org.

“The preparedness plan talks about some of the restrictions like you have to wear a mask and stay six feet apart,” Marchetti said. “All those basics that everyone is doing right now.”

In other business, the board approved a firework permits for Pleasant Lake and Edwardsburg High School on a unanimous vote.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 13.
