Nuclear topic at SMC April 4

Terry Groth, quality assurance at Entergy, of Kalamazoo, will be the next speaker in Southwestern Michigan College’s Spring Academic Lecture Series.
Groth, a 2002 SMC alumnus, will talk on the future of nuclear energy at 2 p.m. April 4 in the event theater of the Student Activity Center.
Groth is currently the Midwest regional lead for the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN), a national organization of young nuclear professionals which promotes nuclear energy while developing professional skills.
A member of NAYGN since 2008, Groth has served as the Entergy Nuclear-Palisades Chapter chair and as the vice president over the Entergy Nuclear Northeast NAYGN chapters.
Groth has worked in the nuclear energy industry for the past eight years after graduating from college, first in engineering as a design engineer and most recently as a quality assurance assessor.
For the last five years Groth has educated a variety of college students on nuclear energy and its benefits.
Groth, a Dowagiac native, is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan.
He holds an associate in science degree from SMC and bachelor of science in mechanical engineering and master of science in engineering management degrees, both from Western  Michigan University.
The final event in the series will be SMC’s speech competition from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. on April 19 in the Student Activity Center event theater. The event is sponsored by the Communications/Humanities/Social Science Department. Lectures are free and open to the public.
