A Niles man facing charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday.

William Parker not only says he is innocent, but also claims he is a victim of police brutality.

Parker appeared in court Tuesday to waive the hearing, and Judge Dennis Wiley scheduled a jury trial for July 10-12. A case conference has been slated for May 18.

City police allege Parker was boisterous and confrontational when he was denied access to the ambulance his mother was in, last month.

Parker denies that and claims officers beat him in the head several times after he had left the ambulance.

The Niles Police Department is conducting an internal investigation of the incident.

Calls made to the police department regarding the investigation were not returned Tuesday.

Contrary to reports from other news outlets, Parker told the Daily Star he is not planning to sue the Niles Police Department.
