The Niles All-Stars almost let a 10-0 lead slip away as well as a district championship at Thomas Stadium Wednesday night.

The all-stars held on for a wild 31-29 victory over Three Rivers for the Little League Michigan District 15 Junior Division championship.

Niles will now host the sectional at Thomas Stadium at 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday against the winner of the District 3 (Jackson area) championship.

In the victory Wednesday night, Kendall Whitelow, Caleb Ringer and Austin Carter all had RBI doubles, while Bryce McLane, Ryan Clingaman, Derrick Miller and Devin Plew each drove in runs.

Austin Blevins picked up the victory on the mound for Niles.

“Each of the 14 kids on our roster contributed in this win whether it was with their bat, on the bases or making clutch outs on defense,” coach Rob Clingaman said, “and if just one of them had not, it would have made a difference in the final score for sure. Coach Mark Young and I could not ask for more than that.”

The winner of Saturday’s sectional advances to the state tournament in Gladstone.
