Swathwood movie review: ‘Life of Pi’

Star Struck

“Life of Pi”
5 out of 5 stars
Rating: PG
Genre: Adventure, drama

Ang Lee, known for such films as “Brokeback Mountain” and “Taking Woodstock,” is directing his best masterpiece to date, “Life of Pi.” Based on the award-winning novel written by Yann Martel, “Life of Pi” is about a young man who survives a major disaster at sea and then adventures onto an amazing journey of discoveries. He forms a connection with another survivor from the ship, a Bengal tiger.

There really is not much to say about the story besides, it’s perfect. Screenplay writer David Magee did an amazing job with the script. The visuals will take your breath away.

Walking into the theater, I already knew the movie would be visually stunning and thought nothing could beat “Avatar.” I was wrong. I am confident that “Life of Pi” will win Best Visuals during the 2013 Academy Awards.

If you told me to watch the trailer, I would be beyond bored.   This movie is a great family adventure. If you take children to the show, they might cry, a lot; but the designs and the visuals will put a smile back on their faces.

Visuals, story, what else? Directing. Ang Lee is also my front-runner currently for best director. Everything about this movie screams, Oscars.

Is this the best movie so far this year? No.

Is this movie worth $20 to go see?

Absolutely.
