James David Hall, 77, of Cassopolis

Former South Bend resident James David Hall, 77 of Diamond Lake, Cassopolis, died Sunday, Sept.15, 2013 in Healthwin Specialized Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

Hall was born March 10, 1936 in Warsaw, Ind. to the late Adalene Hildenbrand and W. Robert Hall and had lived in the Michiana area since 1967. On Aug. 17, 1958 in Warsaw he married Janet Foresman who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Joel J. Hall (Mary) of Brownsburg, Ind. and Jeremy J. Hall (Molly) of Santa Clarita, Calif.; five grandchildren, Kirsten Shields (Jared) of Indianapolis, Andrew Hall and Elissa Hall both of Brownsburg, Kieran Hall and Finn Hall both of Santa Clarita; and his brother, John Hall (Maureen) of Big Chapman Lake, Ind.

Hall was a Navy Judge Advocate before becoming an accomplished patent attorney in the South Bend area. His work included casework before the Federal Supreme Court. He retired from the law firm of Botkin and Hall in 2012. James also taught patent law at the University of Notre Dame Law School. He was heavily involved with his community and was most proud of the work of Rotary International (Paul Harris fellow and past club president), Boy Scouts of America (Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver Award), and the Shriners Children’s Hospitals (33rd Degree Mason and presiding officer in the Scottish Rite and Orak Shrine Temple).

A Masonic Memorial Service was held Sept. 20 at Highland cemetery where burial followed.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rotary International, Boy Scouts of America, or Shriners Children’s Hospitals.
