Eddies finish 12th at Division 3 state finals

KALAMAZOO — The Edwardsburg tennis team finished 12th at the Division 3 Tennis State Final this past weekend.

Detroit Country Day captured the state title with 33 points. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood was the runner-up with 29 points. The Eddies finished five points.

Erin Letter advanced to the third round at No. 4 doubles for Edwardsburg. After a first-round bye, Letter defeated Ada Feasby, of Spring Lake, 6-3, 2-6 and 7-6.

In her third-round match, Letter was defeated by Country Day’s Katie Han 6-0 and 6-1. Han would go on to win the state title at No. 4 singles.

The Eddies’ Julia Lewis received a first-round bye, but was then defeated by Chelsea’s Josie Jackson, who won by default.

In doubles matches, Edwardsburg’s Abby Pryor and Mya Eberlein also advanced to the third round. After a first-round bye, Pryor and Eberlein defeated Brenda McCann and Ramiah Caroland, of St. Johns, 6-4 and 6-2.

In the third round, Pryor and Eberlein were defeated by Chelsea’s Lucy Taylor and Brenna Taylor 6-2 and 6-0. They would go on to finish runner-up at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 4 doubles, the Eddies’ Libby Freudenburg and Olivia Closson were defeated in the second round by Bloomfield Hills Marian’s Lauren Higdon and Stella Glorio 6-0 and 6-0. They would go on to finish runner-up in their flight.
