Buchanan upsets Bobcats 6-2 in Lakeland tennis

NILES — Visiting Buchanan upset defending Lakeland Conference champion Brandywine 6-2 in girls tennis Wednesday.

The Bucks swept the singles flights and split the doubles flights to earn the victory.

Winning singles matches for Buchanan were Riley Capron, Kaitlin Ferrell, Norah Kutemeier and Alex Paturalski.

Ferrell needed three sets to knock off Sydney Olson at No. 2 singles.

Securing the victory with doubles wins were Addison McKean and Finley Kehoe at the No. 3 flights, and Morgan Weldy and Lillian Wegener at No. 4 doubles.

The Bobcats’ lone wins came from Tressa Hullinger and Jaelyn Franks at No. 1 doubles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Ashlyn Kohler and Allie Curtis Lee.

On Tuesday, Brandywine swept a doubleheader against South Haven and Bronson. The Bobcats defeated the Rams 8-0 and the Vikings 6-2.

The Bucks were also in action as they were defeated by state powerhouse Allegan 6-2 in a non-conference match.
