Dowagiac falls to Berrien Springs 2-1

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The Dowagiac girls soccer team was edged by host Berrien Springs 2-1 in Lakeland Conference play Wednesday night.

The Chieftains outshot the Shamrocks 11-1, but would not find the back of the net. Dowagiac’s score came on a Berrien Springs own goal.

“Very frustrating game today,” said Dowagiac Coach Joey Pasternak. “We didn’t do any of the things we know how to do and have been showing that we can do. We fell into the kick ball game today and didn’t move or swing the ball at all… We only gave up two shots all game and they capitalize on both. We are struggling to find that last push to goal. We still had plenty of chances to win the game but mentally as a group we didn’t have it together today. Defensively we have been doing a great job this year shutting it down we just need to find it offensively in the final third to score.”

The Chieftains are back in action Friday as they travel to Vicksburg for a non-conference match with the former Wolverine Conference foe Bulldogs. Dowagiac will host Coldwater in another non-league match Monday.
