H. Dean Rodgers

H. Dean Rodgers, 82, of Ontwa Township, Edwardsburg, passed to his rest on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Ind. He was born May 30, 1930 in Knox, Ind. the son of Herman and Hazel (Trigg) Rodgers.

He moved to the Edwardsburg area in 1963 from South Bend. He was the owner of Dino’s Hair Fashions in South Bend, and then from the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation, in the custodial department. He was an active member of the Granger Missionary Church.  There he served as Sunday school superintendent, and loved music, especially singing his ‘favorite hymns of the church’. He was an artist in his trade of wood carving.

Dean was married on April 16, 1950 in Scottsdale Arizona to Bernadine L. Frost, and they enjoyed 62 years together. Surviving are their children, Harold (Barbara) Rodgers of Granger, Brenda (Mike) Gans of Edwardsburg, and Linda (James) Smith of Dowagiac.There are five loving grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Marilyn Folkers of Knox. Family who have preceded Dean, are his parents, a sister Lois Flegal, and three brothers, Don Rodgers, Charles Rodgers and Joe Rodgers.

Family and friends gathered Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at the Granger Missionary Church, 50841 Birch Road, Granger, Ind. Sunday, where the service of Remembrance was Monday.

Officiating will be the Rev. Earl Smith, pastor and Rev. Bob Renner, former pastor. Friends and family may gather Monday for one hour before services at the church. Interment will follow at the Edwardsburg Cemetery, immediately following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the church. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home. 26863 West Main St., Edwardsburg.
