Looking Inside Dowagiac Schools: Five Star Life

According to Seth Maust, COO of Five Star; “Five Star is the best hotel, restaurant and vehicle rating…it’s the best of the best.”

At Five Star Life, he believes every student has the potential to live their best life.

Five Star kicked off at Dowagiac Middle School in January and has been a huge success.

About 150 students and more than 20 Five Star coaches and volunteers met in the cafeteria for this high-energy, after-school program marking the largest school launch of any Five Star school since its inception eight years ago.

Five Star helps students fulfill their potential to live their best life in two ways: 1.) it connects students to a Five Star coach (volunteers from the community), and 2.) it helps students make a commitment to these core values: respect, responsibility, integrity, sacrifice and courage.

The program also focuses on having a fun and safe after-school activity for middle school students.

The program is open to all students attending Dowagiac Middle School.

Seasons run for eight weeks at a time and meet after school on Fridays from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m.

The spring season of Five Star began at the end of March with a whole new mix of students —some returning Five Star veterans and a whole new group of students. This program has been such a success, DMS actually run out of coaches and had to start a waiting list.
