Rudy appearing at Fireside Grill

EDWARDSBURG – Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger’s September bus tour will be stopping at the Fireside Grill Sept. 21, prior to the Notre Dame-Michigan football game.

Ruettiger will be promoting his new book “Rudy My Story,” which will be released Tuesday.

A limited number of spaces are available to dine with Rudy at a cost of $150. Restaurant patrons can register for a chance to participate by dining there and entering to win a place at the table.

Entries will be taken up until Sept. 20, when a party will take place to announce the winning tickets. The band, South of Somewhere, will be performing at the party.

The author, who wrote the new book with Mark Dagostino, is traveling the country in the “Rudy Dreams Big Tour – Believing is powerful” bus tour.

He gained fame following the movie “Rudy,” which was released in 1993. Written by Angelo Pizzo, who also wrote the popular sports movie “Hoosiers,” “Rudy” tells the story of a Catholic boy from Joliet, Ill., who ends up being a part of the Notre Dame football team.

The movie has inspired people to overcome adversity. One of those people is Los Angeles Lakers’ guard and member of the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team, Kobe Bryant, who said in 2011 that the movie “Rudy” changed his life. Bryant said he watched the movie several times in theaters and hundreds of times on videotape as while attending Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa.

Bryant, who was named the top high school basketball player in the country, said the movie motivated him to work as hard as possible with the talent he was given.

The book tells the “behind the scenes” story of the 10 years it took to get the movie made. Ruettiger writes that he is an “Average Joe” who made his dream a reality.
