Edwardsburg Board of Education Monday night added five teachers in anticipation of the start of the 2012-13 school year Tuesday.

Jan MacLean, Edwardsburg Middle School principal, recommended hiring Angela Wilfert as a sixth-grade teacher and Hillary DuFour as the family and consumer science teacher.

As part of an organizational realignment, MacLean becomes middle school principal while Jeffrey Leslie serves as high school principal.

To continue integrating information-age technology in instruction to prepare graduates for global competition, EHS opens Edwardsburg Early College.

Wilfert, an Edwardsburg graduate, earned her bachelor’s degree in history from Saint Mary’s College. She previously taught at Brown Intermediate School in South Bend.

DuFour has a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She previously taught in Elkhart. DuFour graduated from Superior, Neb., Junior-Senior High School.

Primary School Principal Deborah Crouch recommended the hiring of Kayla Goldsmith as a kindergarten teacher, Katherine Clark as a multi-age teacher and Lauren Meier as a first-grade teacher.

Goldsmith, a graduate of Constantine High School, graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Clark graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a kindergarten endorsement. She previously taught in the South Bend Community School Corp. Clark is a graduate of Malabar High School in Mansfield, Ohio.

Meier graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She is an alumna of Walled Lake Northern High School.

At the July 9 school board meeting, Supt. Sherman Ostrander recommended the hiring of Deborah Becraft of Union as Eagle Lake principal. She has a master’s degree in education from Indiana University and had been a teacher and principal for 26 years with the Penn-Harris-Madison school district in Granger.

Becraft succeeds James Hendress, who retired.

Andrew Augustin was hired as an English teacher for the high school. He graduated from Grand Valley State University. He graduated from Whitehall High School.

New conference

The Eddies begin competition in the West Division of the Wolverine Conference with Berrien Springs, Coloma, Dowagiac, South Haven and Three Rivers.

Michigan High School Athletic Association is launching a new software program, ArbiterGame, which lets fans follow their favorite Eddies teams.

Gate prices are $5 for all varsity sports; $4 for junior varsity sports; and $3 adults, $2 students for middle school.

Senior passes or AARP cars are honored at all conference events.

There is no charge for preschool children with adults.

Meal program

Food service utilizes a point-of-sale program, MealMagic. The system uses the student number on picture identification cards to access lunch accounts.
