On June 15, men, women and children from all walks of life will participate in a Walk-A-Mile in her Shoes event at APEX (Athletic and Physical Education CompleX) behind Dowagiac Union High School to protest sexual assault and domestic violence.  This event will bring community members together to walk (in high heels, flip flops or sneakers) to bring awareness to sexual assault and domestic violence.

Men are encouraged (but not required) to walk in women’s shoes, and participants are being asked to obtain pledges in advance. 

There will be a variety of activities, including the Walk-A-Mile event, a DJ, children’s activities, concessions and information. 

Registration for the walk will begin at 10 a.m. and the walk event starting at 11 a.m.  Registration is free to those wearing heels, $15 for flip flops and $25 for sneakers.  High heels and flip flops will be provided. Walk participants who collect pledges will receive a free T-shirt. Women are encouraged to join the event as supporters of the male participants and are encouraged to collect pledges and walk as well.

Funds generated through DASAS’ Walk a Mile in her Shoes event support the programs and services of Domestic and Sexual Abuse Services. 

The mission of DASAS is to empower women, children and their families and to

eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault. DASAS has provided services to thousands of residents of Cass, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties for the last 29 years. 

DASAS provides programs in the areas of sexual assault and domestic violence, including: prevention, supportive counseling services, comprehensive advocacy services, support groups, emergency shelter program and emergency outreach programs.
