Annie Mae Glover, 103

Born: July 11, 1909

Died: Dec. 19, 2012

Annie Mae Glover

Annie Mae Glover, 103, of Cassopolis, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis.

She was born July 11, 1909 in Carroll County, Miss. to Wilson and Cora Lee (Hudson) Mattox, the oldest girl of seven children.

She married Joseph Jefferson Glover on Christmas Day in 1928. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Clarence Wilson Glover, Joseph Jefferson Glover, Jr., and Wadell Glover; three grandchildren; five sisters; and one brother.

Annie moved to the area in 1954 from Winona, Miss. She was a member of Chain Lake Missionary Baptist Church since 1955 where she served in various roles, including on the Missionary Society and the Usher Board.

Annie was an avid gardener, who canned most of what was raised and loved to bake. She was also an exceptional seamstress who made most of the children’s clothes and draperies. Annie was family oriented.  The grandchildren, who all called her “Big Momma,” remember being at the house every Sunday after church, with so many aunts, uncles, and cousins, it was like a family reunion every week.

She and her husband used to make patchwork quilts. She retired as a domestic worker, having worked for several area doctors.

Annie will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by nine children, Bonnie (Jean) Glover of Chicago, Illinois, Ethel (Theopolis) Johnson of Cassopolis, William (Brenda) Glover of Cassopolis, Alonzo (Darlene) Glover of Cassopolis, Marvin (Judy) Glover of Cassopolis, Annie Irving of Elkhart, Ind., Kathleen Alford of South Bend, Ind., Leonard (Adrienne) Glover of Cassopolis, Connie (Stanley) McCarter of Mishawaka, Ind.; one daughter in law, Osie Glover of Jackson, Tenn.; 41 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to count; one brother, Ira (Liz) Mattox of Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will gather from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28 in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 29, in Chain Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 16853 Chain Lake St., Cassopolis, with The Rev. Norman L. Tubbs officiating. Mrs. Glover will be laid to rest beside her late husband in Chain Lake Cemetery, Calvin Township.

The family prefers memorial contributions to Cass County Council on Aging, Post Office Box 5, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031 or Cass County Medical Care Facility, 23770 Hospital St., Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner Family Funerals, Cassopolis.  Online condolences may be posted at wagnercares.com.
