Joyce Chase, 88, of Galien, passed away on May 6, 2020.

She was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Benton Harbor.

She grew up during the depression on a farm close to Eau Claire.

In June 1950, she graduated from Saint Joseph High School. Joyce married Ernest Arthur Chase, from Galien, on July 21, 1951, and settled in Galien. There she helped build two successful businesses. She was senior tax consultant, bookkeeper and licensed insurance agent.

In Galien, she was a community volunteer involved with the Galien School System, Boy Scouts of America, a founding member of Galien Volunteer Ambulance Service, Emergency Medical tech. and served on Michigan Emergency Services Health Council. She was active in Republican politics, and served as an election official for many years. In her mid-50s, she went back to school at Lake Michigan College and graduated in May 1986 as a registered nurse. She worked in that field for 15 years. Joyce was listed in the 1977 to 1978 edition of “Marquis Who’s Who of American Women.”

Joyce is survived by her sons, Ernest Lucky Chase, Arthur Mickey Chase, Robert Joey Chase, William Randy Chase and James Richard Chase; sisters, Mary Ann (William) Dolan and Janet (Duane) Wise; grandchildren, Angie Quintanilla, Craig Jervis, Shawn Chase, William Chase, Mickey Chase, Indy Chase, Storm Chase, Nicholas Chase, Marsha Chase, Walter Chase, Kylie (Chase) Strauss, Christopher Chase, Carrie Chase, Jonie Chase, Jennie Chase and Charlie Chase; 21 great-grandchildren; three nieces; and three nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Arthur Chase; parents, Richard and Evelyn Winney; and sister, Jerilynn Barchett.

Burial for Joyce will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Galien Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Galien American Legion post 344, 402 N. Main St., Galien, MI 49113.
