Alfred “Al” H. Patzer, of Dowagiac

Alfred “Al” H. Patzer, 86, of Dowagiac, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, with Pastor Weldon Townsend officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dowagiac Athletic Boosters. Alfred Patzer

Al was born on Sept. 25, 1931, in Dowagiac to Henry and Anna (Koble) Patzer. He graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1951. Al attended and played football for K-College before he was called to serve his country in the United States Army. On June 19, 1954, he married the love of his life Donna Hodges. Al loved spending time with his family in the pool. He enjoyed being outside and was an avid nature watcher. Al loved sports, he was an avid University of Michigan and Detroit Lions fan. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling to Florida. He was known as a selfless and loving person who loved his family greatly. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Al is survived by his children, Kirk (Joni) Patzer and Krin (Robert) Bickel; grandchildren, Amy (Andy) Hackett and Eric (Sarah) Patzer; great-grandchildren, Hailey Marie Hackett and Zachary Alan Patzer; sister Annie Turner and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Patzer and sister Helen Urbanski.
