Audrey Lee Gibson

At a ceremony in Cardwell, Missouri, Audrey and Harold Gibson married on Oct. 10, 1936.

Always a hard worker, Audrey grew up picking cotton for over 20 years, worked for the VM Corporation in Benton Harbor for over 20 years until she and her husband established the Pitcher Lake Campground in Dowagiac and operated that for over 30 years, it is still run by her family today. When Audrey had spare time, she loved to work in the yard growing flowers, gardening, canning, and especially spending time with her family and friends. In Audrey’s life, as much as she loved her family, God always came first. She learned to depend on God, and found that her faith carried her through. She has been a faithful member of the Dowagiac Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gibson; her son, Donald Gibson; a granddaughter, Linda Kay; two brothers and five sisters.

Audrey is survived by her son Bill (Patty) Gibson of Dowagiac; a daughter-in-law, Marge Gibson-Gregg (John) of Sedalia, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Carol, Brenda, Donna, Tina, Steve, Sandy, Nyoka, Synona, Kamoka and Andrew; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren. Audrey had to say goodbye to many family members in her lifetime but was amazed she was able to know her sixth generation. She touched everyone she met and will be missed by many.

A time of visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61453 Highway M-51 in Niles. Funeral services to honor the life of Audrey Gibson will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel.
