Herbert Leon Johnson, 60, of Dowagiac, passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.

Herbert was born on Feb. 11, 1955, in South Bend, to Edward and Barbara (Dodd) Johnson. He attended Penn High School in Mishawaka, IN. Herbert enjoyed being a picker, stopping and picking up things alongside the road and at garage sales. He then refurbished those items and reused them or passed them to family members. Herbert loved relaxing next to the river beside a bonfire which reminded him of his boyhood. He had a love for cats and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Herbert is survived by his son, Michael Johnson (Lisa Dean) of Mishawaka, Indiana; a daughter, Jennifer Johnson of Ireland; sister Gloria (Michael) Joachim of Osceola, Indiana; sister, Lori (Don) White of Mishawaka, Indiana; sister, Linda Burgh of Osceola, Indiana; Kathy (Elliot) Colburn of Mishawaka, Indiana; a granddaughter, Michelle Johnson; significant other, Sally Simmons of Dowagiac, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mark Johnson.
