Don’t let the government hold us hostage

The Michigan Legislature does not want to vote to raise taxes to fix our roads. They can, but they don’t want to because it may haunt them next election. So on May 5 they are holding us hostage, saying we must vote to raise our own taxes, or our roads will continue to deteriorate. If we vote no, it’s all our fault,

they tried.

They say Proposal 1 is complicated and hard to understand, no argument there. The bottom line, according to the Associated Press and the Mackinac Center, is that tax increases will average around $500 per year per household, with Earned Income Tax Credit recipients receiving an average $69 tax cut in 2017.

Personally I resent taxation without representation. I say to our Legislators — take responsibility, be accountable. That’s what we pay you for. Stand up, make the hard choices and accept the consequences. Don’t ask us to do your job.
