Roya Williams, formerly of Niles

Roya Williams was born March 15, 1944 in Bolton, Mississippi. He was one of six children born to the late Charlie Williams Sr. and the late Earnestine (Ross) Williams.

Roya graduated from Niles High School in 1963. After high school Roya enlisted in the United States Navy from 1963-1969.

Roya was stationed at Alameda Naval Base where he served in the Navy personnel department. While serving in Alameda, Roya met his future wife Johnnie May Mitchell (Williams) in Berkeley, California. In 1966, Roya and Johnnie married.

Roya Williams was and still is “one in a million.” Extremely driven, compassionate, caring, loving husband, father and friend.

Roya was a businessman by trade and a very successful one over the span of his life. He achieved an incredible amount of notoriety and accomplishments in everything he touched. After leaving the Navy, Roya joined the California Correctional Department in Soledad, California, and in 1978 joined Hewlett Packard. At Hewlett Packard, Roya held several positions: inventory control, material handler, computer operations and support in house and in the field. Roya retired from Hewlett Packard after 21 years and embarked into a new venture, “Clean Shield Janitorial Services,” that covered the entire bay area. He was a role-model for the young coming into the trade or trying to start a new beginning. Roya led by example with outstanding work ethic by showing many others that displayed himself.

Roya was involved in several organizations: Foster Parent program for 23 years, Elk Lodge, American Legion Northside Post 858 where he was the first Vice Commander and member of the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce.

“49er 4 Ever” sports fan and enthusiast. Roya was a season ticket holder for over 30 years for the 49ers and the Warriors. You could hear KNBR all the time in his car and house radio. Roya loved the outdoors. Fishing, camping, going on log family trips in the RV, golf, baseball, pinochle, and last but not least, Cache Creek Casino.

Royas is survived by his wife of 49 years, Johnnie Mae Williams; his daughters, Latasha Williams (Tim Miller Sr.) of San Jose, California and Rolisa Williams of San Jose, California; son, Dijon Williams of San Jose, California and one grandson, Timothy Miller Jr.; three sisters, Georgia Boggs and Margie Livers of Niles, Michigan, Earnestine (Williams) and her husband Sam Lacy, of Dowagiac, Michigan; a god-son Eddie Fairley, Jr. of Elk Grove Village, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and many friends.

Roya was preceded in death by his two brothers, Charlie Williams and Samuel Williams and a good friend, John clark.
