Viola Mercedes (Stanley) Rock, 82 of Dowagiac, passed away at 9:25 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at her home surrounded by family.

Viola Rock was born Dec. 16, 1931, to the late James and Donna Stanley. On August 14, 1948, in South Bend, Ind., she married Arthur Fred Rock who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her eight children, Wayne (Joyce) Rock, Sonja (Robert) Gelnett-Bower, Sherrel Rock, William (Deborah) Rock, Virginia (Ian) Ritchie, Donna (Jeff) Smith, Christina Casteneda and Bradley (Stacey) Rock. Also surviving is one sister, Mila West, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed preparing and spending Sunday dinners with her family and her cat, “Miss Kitty.” She also loved bird watching and playing cards with her family.
