Edward Pollock, 90, of Niles, Michigan died at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, with his family gathered at his bedside at The Timbers of Cass County in Dowagiac, Michigan following a brief illness.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1924, in Howard Township, Michigan to Smires Roy and Eva (Lakoda) Pollock. He was graduated from Niles High School, and lived here all of his life.

He was employed at the former Niles plant of the Kawneer Company for 33 years. He was then employed at National-Standard for 10 years, and three years at Nyloncraft, Inc. He was also employed as a driver for the Oakwood Farms.

Ed attended the Grace United Methodist Church in Niles. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. His greatest interest was his grandsons, and his dog.

On Nov. 27, 1946, in Niles he married the former Jessie L. McDonald with whom he celebrated last year the 67th anniversary of their wedding.

Surviving family includes his wife, Jessie Pollock and their daughter, Sharon (Carl) Burger of Niles; grandsons, Randy (Pearl) Burger, Scott (Beth) Burger, and Chad (Kim) Burger; great-grandchildren Nick Burger, Melissa (Brian) Albright, Mindy Burger, Carlee Burger, Conrad Burger, Paige Burger, and Logan Burger; great-great-grandchildren Paige, Austin, Jonathan, Alex, and Caroline; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Ray and Roy Pollock, and sisters Beatrice and Berniece.

The funeral service for Edward Pollock will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Dr. Tony Tomasino of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Committal will follow at the graveside at Mission Hills, and will conclude with Full Military Honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 51.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Edward Pollock may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund; or to the Cass County Animal Shelter.
