Glendora ‘Glen’ O. Van Tilburg, of Niles

Glendora O. Van Tilburg, 96, of Niles, died at 5:35 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Elkhart (Indiana) Hospice House following a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1918, in Niles to John August and Christine Hannah (Sandberg) Lundberg. She was graduated from Niles High School, and has lived in the Galien and Niles area her whole life. She was employed in the offices of the Bendix Corporation for over 35 years prior to retirement.

“Glen” was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Niles. She enjoyed spending time on the family farm, cooking for family, flower gardening and caring for animals. She was an avid reader of current events and her Bible. Glen possessed a nurturing nature, equally able to heal hurt fingers and hearts, failing potted plants, and any animal that came to her.

On Dec. 13, 1941, she married Edward C. Van Tilburg who preceded her in death on June 13, 1949. She was also preceded in death by eight siblings, Roy Lundberg, Florence Gillentine, Alice Moore, Stanley Lundberg, Betty Hall, Robert Lundberg, Richard Lundberg, and infant Axel Lundberg.

Surviving family includes a daughter, Linda (Frank) Reese of Niles; granddaughter; Cheryl (Richard) King; great-grandchildren Christiana Glen King and Richard Franklin King; a sister, Dorothy (Leon) Williams of Niles; a brother-in-law, Harold Hall of Niles and sister-in-law, Bev (Mrs. Richard) Lundberg of Niles; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Glendora Van Tilburg will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Dr. Anthony Tomasino of the church officiating, assisted by Grace Church’s Visitation Pastor Shannon Pollitt. Committal will follow at Galien Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Glen Van Tilburg may be made to Grace United Methodist Church; or to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan.
