Waneta Mae Long, 94, of Niles died on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at her home at Keystone Assisted Living Facility following an extended illness. The family is very grateful for the care she received by Kathy, Mindy, Rhonda, Pam, Georgina and Andrea.

She was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Joseph and Lily (VanAmburg) Douglas. On Sept. 23, 1945, in Niles, Michigan she married Willis E. Long, who preceded her in death on June 1, 2001.

Waneta was a member of the Yankee Street Club in Niles and was involved with the Howard Home Economics group. She volunteered many hours at Lakeland Community Hospital, formerly Pawating Hospital, in Niles at the coffee bar.

Surviving family includes her sister, Mrs. Selma Easton of Niles, and many nieces and nephews.

Waneta was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; a sister Mrs. Almarion Boulton; brothers George Andrews and Sgt. Joseph Douglas Jr., U.S. Army who died in WWII, and a half-brother Albert Andrews.

Funeral services for Waneta Mae Long will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles with the Rev. Mike Smith of Hope Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014, and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Monday.
