Robert C. Masterman, Jr., 63, of Niles, died at 12:25 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born on June 4, 1950, in Niles to Robert C. and Madeline E. (Vitellaro) Masterman, Sr. He was graduated from Brandywine High School, and has lived in this area all of his life. He was a machinist, and had been employed at the Sundowner Trailer Corporation plant in Elkhart, Ind.

Bob enjoyed working in the garage, usually on the small engines of lawn mowers and snowthrowers. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening. He also was a frequent watcher of The Weather Channel.

Surviving family includes his wife, Myrle Jernigan and four children, Robert (Toni) Masterman III of Elkhart, Tim (& Deborah Dzakowic) Masterman of Dowagiac, Tonia (William Ivory) Jernigan of Niles, and Tony Jernigan of South Bend, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Rose and Kathy Masterman, both of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Masterman and sister Jackie Milner.

The family of Robert Masterman, Jr. will be gathering privately to remember and honor his life. Contributions in memory of Bob may be made to Hospice at Home. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
