Niles Riverfest celebrates 20 years with its signature events, the Dragonboat Challenge and the Anything That Floats raft race on the St. Joseph River, as well as live music, food vendors, BMX stunt show, daily pancake breakfasts and more. Visit nilesriverfest.net for a schedule.

Downtown South Bend, Ind.

South Bend is throwing a two-day beach party to benefit the Center for the Homeless. Tons of sand is dumped along the St. Joseph River. Teen Night is Aug. 3 and includes DJs, food, games and virgin daiquiris. Family Day is Aug. 4, with face painting, caricatures, sand castle building, Dora the Explorer and more. In the River — a 200 boat float — is new this year and also on Saturday. The 21 and over Beach Bash is Saturday night, with palm trees and fireworks. Admission: Teen Night: $5 advance and $8 at the gate; Family Day: $5 and children 3 and under free; Beach Bash: $10 advance and $15 at the gate. Parking is free. Visit ontheriverfest.com.

Cass County Fair

Cass County hosts a traditional rural fair with 4-H demonstrations, a midway and grandstand events, including the Super Kickers Rodeo at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 and the monster truck show at 7 p.m. Aug. 4. Homemakers are admitted free until 9:30 a.m. Aug. 3 and families are $1 from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 4. Visit casscountymifair.com for a schedule.

Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra presents “The Reel Score”

Take a journey through 30 years of movies with Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra. The concert will feature music from “Lord of the Rings,” “Harry Potter,” “Forrest Gump,” “Jaws,” “Dances with Wolves” and more. “Beach” food and ice cream will be available. Ticket prices vary. Parking at park is $5; free parking available at Whirlpool St. Joseph Technology Center, 303 Upton Drive, St. Joseph, where patrons can catch a shuttle bus.

Christopher Columbus ship replicas
