Coleman Ernest Scott, 93 years old, of Niles, passed to his rest on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at his home after a brief illness. Coleman was born Jan. 5, 1920 in Baroda, Michigan the son of Charles Henry and Alta Janet (Andrews) Scott. He has lived in this area all of his life.

Coleman retired in 1982 as a welder for National Standard Co. of Niles. He was a member of the Hope Community Church and a member of the ‘Men’s Breakfast Group’, which met once a month at the church. He also was a member of the Niles American Legion, Post 26. Coleman was in the US Army during WW II, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre with 2 bronze battle stars, also in the Philippine Liberation with 1 bronze star and 5 overseas service bars.

Coleman was married Feb. 4, 1942 in St. Joseph, Michigan to Catherine M. Wogoman, who survives with two sons; Gerald Ernest (Gae) Scott of Casper, WY and John Leslie (Kathy) Scott of Union, MI. There are 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He also has two sisters; Della (John) Copin and Alice Funnell, both of Florida. Family who has passed, is one son, Kenneth Allen Scott, his parents and three brothers; Donald, Albert and Louis Scott.

Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 from 5-7 p.m., at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St, (US-12) in Edwardsburg. The Service of Remembrance will be Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at his church, Hope Community Church, 2390 Lake Street, Niles, where all may gather beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, 61453 M-51, North of Niles. The United States Army Honor Guard will play TAPS and fold the American Flag, they will be assisted by the Niles American Legion, Post 26.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, Michigan 49085.
