Mrs. Claudia S. Preston, age 70, of Grand Haven passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Hospice Residence of Heartwood Lodge, after a courageous fight of cancer. She was born September 8, 1943 in Grand Haven to Claude “Bud” Knoll and Natalie (McMahan) Knoll.

Claudia was a very active member of The United Methodist Church of the Dunes. She was a member of the churches choir and bible study. During her time she lived in Niles, Michigan Claudia was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was also involved with the Optimist Auxillary. Claudia was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in her garden. She was also an outstanding pianist and organist. She was also a great strength to her friends and family at the Johnson Cancer Center. Most of all she loved her family.

On June 19, 1965 she married her soulmate Gregory Preston in Grand Haven. She is survived by her husband along with two children, Mike(Dawn) Preston of Bixby, Ok and Elizabeth (Chad Lee) Preston-Huff of Grand Haven; one granddaughter, Abby Biniecki. She is survived by one brother Thom (Sandy) Knoll Grand Haven; sister-in-law, Sally Knoll of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Brian (Laury) Preston of New York and Phillip (Bonnie)Preston of Jackson MI. and her Uncle Ed Knoll of Grand Haven; her dear friend of more than 60 yrs Norma (Tom) Sodoni of Grand Haven. She was a beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews as long as many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Natalie Knoll, brother, Gord Knoll and special nephew, Robbie Jerovsek.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at The United Methodist Church of the Dunes with Rev. Daniel Duncan officiating. Visitation with Claudia’s family will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2013 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Memorial contributions in memory of Claudia may be given to the Joni Starky Memorial Fund at The United Methodist Church of the Dunes, The United Methodist Church of the Dunes Building Fund, or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
